Business in Dubai: Thriving Green Transport Sector
Business in Dubai is what lures entrepreneurs from across the globe. This place stands out as a leader in terms of investment volumes and new companies. I moved to Dubai in January 2021, and I’d like to highlight two key factors contributing to the region’s appeal for entrepreneurs. For starters, there’s a transparent tax system, with zero tax for individuals and specific companies. Secondly, the process for registering businesses is streamlined, transparent, and straightforward. Dubai also embraces innovation and champions a commitment to environmentally sustainable business practices.
This article explores the potential and lucrative business opportunities within the region.
Green business in Dubai: Here’s why it offers plenty of benefits
Dubai is advancing its commitment to green business, demonstrated through initiatives such as the Green Agenda 2015-2030 United Arab Emirates, the National Climate Change Plan of the UAE 2017–2050, the UAE National Air Quality Strategy (2021-2031), as well as the UAE National Air Emissions Inventory Project and numerous others. The government is actively funding projects associated with sustainable business practices.
What prompted me to get started with this? The answer is this: Dubai, along with the rest of the Emirates, is shifting towards environmentally-friendly business practices.
What exactly is meant by green business? A green business is one that prioritizes environmentally friendly technologies, avoids harming the environment and local communities, and takes accountability for its actions within the community. Such businesses may include companies that exclusively utilize renewable energy sources, startups focused on enhancing the regional environment, or projects aimed at transforming existing enterprises into new, eco-friendly models.
To what extent does Dubai’s green business sector actually pay off? As you can see from the development plans I listed at the beginning of the article, the Government of Dubai, along with the UAE Government overall, is committed to environmentally friendly practices. It should also be noted that this sort of state policy enjoys widespread support among the residents of the area. As a result, this increases your chances of attracting a local investor for your green business. This is also another significant benefit for entrepreneurs.
The state and regional policies are focused on enhancing the possibilities for both long-standing players in the region and newcomers who are just entering this market.
The United Arab Emirates stands out because they aren’t just merely talking about the importance of shifting business practices toward ones that put the protection of natural resources and the planet’s well-being first; rather, they are taking active steps to make this a reality. This deeply aligns with my personal principles and views.
The UAE is one of the top places to launch startups
Dubai embraces innovation and offers an exceptional environment for starting a business. I’ve personally experienced this as I’ve already started companies here, and I intend to further expand my business here.
Let’s take a closer look at the stats. You can spend as much time as you like considering the region’s benefits, but the cold hard facts of the numbers will always speak louder.
According to the GEM report, the UAE has been recognized as the top country to launch a business in. It’s worth mentioning that among the top five, only one European country is included:
- United Arab Emirates
- Saudi Arabia
- Taiwan
- India
- The Netherlands
There are a number of factors to consider while deciding on a country in which to set up business. If your intention is only to establish production facilities, certain indicators matter; however, if you plan to sell products and services in that market, other factors come into play. When I think of Dubai, I think of a business hub. This is why, I paid close attention to figures such as GDP, unemployment, and inflation rates, which reflect the region’s purchasing power and its taxation rates, along with indicators to measure the ease of doing business.
With an average inflation rate of over 5% and an unemployment rate of just below 4%, the United Arab Emirates has had GDP growth of over 6% in recent years. To this day, the United Arab Emirates places an emphasis on fostering entrepreneurship.
Equally valuable and crucial is gaining insight into how the region’s residents themselves evaluate its strength and potential. After all, no one can gauge the ongoing transformations better than the locals who experience them firsthand.
The majority of Emiratis believe their country has a bright future, according to surveys. More than 40% of the surveyed adult population intends to launch a business in the country in the next three years. To put this in perspective, in Japan and Germany, this figure is less than 10%, and in the USA, it slightly exceeds 10%.
According to the findings of the National Entrepreneurship Context Index, the United Arab Emirates has maintained its position at the top of the list for the second year running.
An integral factor in creating a favorable business environment lies in the ability to secure residence permits for both entrepreneurs and their staff members, along with the implementation of a transparent tax policy.
As evident from the charts shown above, cutting-edge technologies are extensively integrated into business practices in Dubai, and green technologies are no exception to this trend. The niche of green technologies is currently in its nascent stages of robust expansion, offering numerous market opportunities to meet specific environmental project needs within the region. One noteworthy niche is eco-friendly vehicles.
Green business in Dubai: How to profit from it today
Air pollution is a global crisis, not just a Dubai issue. And transportation stands as a significant contributor to this environmental problem.
Dubai is currently taking proactive steps towards switching taxi drivers to green vehicles. However, the issue of eco-friendliness in the courier transportation sector remains largely unaddressed. Multiple studies have demonstrated that gas-powered bikes are a major source of air pollutants, which have detrimental effects on both the environment and human health. Eco Way, a project I have personally invested in, presents an innovative solution to this challenge, and you also have the chance to become an investor in this endeavor.
The project’s mission is to:
■ Reduce the level of air pollution
■ Reduce noise emissions in the city
■ Positively contribute to the region’s ecology.
As I have mentioned earlier, the supportive government policy and the environmentally conscious attitude of Dubai’s residents will play a pivotal role in advancing this project.
What factors will ultimately lead to tangible returns for investors?
■ The project included the design of a custom electric bike tailored to the needs of couriers.
■ To save time, a network of charging stations will be set up where batteries may be swapped out rather than recharged.
■ The project is well-suited for big clients, courier delivery services, as well as individual couriers.
I’ve provided only a brief overview of the upcoming project and its advantages. You can learn more about it on the website. Don’t linger here. Perhaps exploring it will ignite your motivation to take action.
